The topological meaning of Levinson’s theorem, half-bound states included

چکیده
We propose to interpret Levinson’s theorem as an index theorem. This exhibits its topological nature. It furthermore leads to a more coherent explanation of the corrections due to resonances at thresholds.

A topological version of Levinson’s theorem
In the framework of scattering theory, we show how the scattering matrix can be related to the projection on the bound states by an index map of K-theory. Pairings with appropriate cyclic cocyles lead naturally to a topological version of Levinson’s theorem.
متن کاملLevinson’s theorem and higher degree traces for Aharonov-Bohm operators
We study Levinson type theorems for the family of Aharonov-Bohm models from different perspectives. The first one is purely analytical involving the explicit calculation of the waveoperators and allowing to determine precisely the various contributions to the left hand side of Levinson’s theorem, namely those due to the scattering operator, the terms at 0-energy and at energy +∞. The second one...
متن کاملOn the Stronger Statement of Levinson’s Theorem for the Dirac Equation
where the subscript l denotes the angular momentum. As is well know, there is degeneracy of states for the magnetic quantum number due to the spherical symmetry. Usually, this degeneracy is not explicitly expressed in the statement of Levinson’s theorem. In (1) the phase shifts are determined by comparing them with the phase shift at high energy in order to remove their indetermination of a mul...

A 1993 result of J. Llibre, and M. Misiurewicz, (Theorem A [5]), states that if a continuous map f of a graph into itself has an s-horseshoe, then the topological entropy of f is greater than or equal to logs, that is h( f ) ? logs. Also a 1980 result of L.S. Block, J. Guckenheimer, M. Misiurewicz and L.S. Young (Lemma 1.5 [3]) states that if G is an A-graph of f then h(G) ? h( f ). In this pap...
متن کاملOn the wave operators and Levinson’s theorem for potential scattering in R
The paper is a presentation of recent investigations on potential scattering in R. We advocate a new formula for the wave operators and deduce the various outcomes that follow from this formula. A topological version of Levinson’s theorem is proposed by interpreting it as an index theorem.
